Granite City Music Tuition was set up in January 2023 by Susan Byers. Susan is from Aberdeen and first started playing the drums (as well as many other instruments!) when she was at secondary school, she was involved in school shows as well as shows out with school which involved musical theatre productions and pantomimes.
After graduating with a BA Honours Degree in Music, Susan set up a music tuition business in Perth which grew from a single studio in 2008 to operating three studios by 2013 in a much expanded business in larger premises. It involved recruiting and overseeing music tutors on seven different instruments teaching 7 days per week. The business had around 110 students aged between 5 to 80 years old, this included students with disabilities where music proved to be a highly positive experience in their lives.
Now back in Aberdeen, Susan has set up Granite City Music Tuition (based in Bridge of Don) to come back to her passion after working in the oil industry for 8 years in Health & Safety roles. She specialises in drum kit tuition and offers individual half hour lessons. Lessons are available for children (starting from age 5) and adults and are tailored to suit what the student wishes to gain from their lessons, whether that is learning for fun, working towards exams, gaining confidence or gaining experience in different genres of music.
